Dentistry

At Cooper Animal Clinic, we make your pet’s oral health care a priority. During your pet’s wellness examination, a visual examination of your pet’s oral health is performed. Our team looks for signs and symptoms of dental disease. If we see anything concerning in a routine examination, we can discuss further steps in order to enhance your pet’s dental plan. Dental disease is one of the most common problems in cats and dogs.

Without proper care, bacteria from an animal’s mouth can spread through the bloodstream. If dental disease is left untreated, many additional health problems may arise and affect your pet’s overall health. The effects of dental disease in pets are similar to if a human didn’t brush their teeth for years.

Symptoms and signs of dental disease in pets include:

      • Bad breath
      • Red, swollen or bloody gums
      • Excessive drooling
      • Discolored, yellow or brown teeth
      • Difficulty chewing
      • Favoring one side of the mouth
      • Swallowing food without chewing
      • Pawing at the face and/or mouth
      • Swollen or painful face
      • Dropping food out of mouth
      • Sudden disinterest in chew toys/treats
      • Sudden loss of appetite
      • Weight loss

Advanced Dental Care

We offer thorough dental care using our state-of-the-art dental delivery system. Dental care includes routine teeth cleaning and polishing, full oral examination, and dental radiographs. Dental radiographs allow our veterinarians to evaluate structures below the gumline to allow for better diagnosis of the presence and severity of dental disease.

Every effort is made to save teeth. In many circumstances, periodontal disease is too far advanced and tooth extractions are necessary. Many teeth require minor oral surgery to safely extract multi-rooted teeth by removing each root individually. These extractions are possible using our dental drill which are then followed up by post-extraction radiographs to ensure all roots are removed.

Our specialized dental equipment makes your pet’s treatment much quicker, have a decreased healing time and far less pain!
